British Army issue electrician’s pocket knife, manufactured by A. Wright & Son of Sheffield and dated 1980, an original military utility knife produced for specialist electrical and engineering tasks within the British Army during the Cold War period.
The knife features a folding blade with an integrated file, wire stripper and screwdriver for field maintenance and technical work intended to support electrical repair and communications equipment servicing. The blade is marked on the ricasso “A. Wright & Son, Sheffield” on one side and “(Broad Arrow) 1980” on the other. The grip scales are marked with the partial NATO stock number “910-5285”.
A. Wright & Son of Sheffield formed part of the long-established Sheffield cutlery industry, supplying edged tools and utility knives for both civilian and military contracts. The 1980 production date places this example within a period of continued British Army modernisation and specialist technical support operations.
Electrician’s knives of this pattern were issued to personnel involved in engineering, signals, and maintenance roles, where compact and durable field tools were required. Their practical design reflects the British military emphasis on reliable trade equipment suitable for operational environments.
Manufactured in steel with folding components and durable handle construction, this knife represents a functional and historically representative piece of late 20th-century British military field equipment.
