An original Canadian issue Mortar Platoon machete, manufactured by Legitimus Collins & Co. and dated 1943, complete with its leather scabbard. These machetes were specifically produced for Canadian soldiers during the Second World War, designed for clearing brush and preparing positions. The machete features a heavy, single-edged blade with a clipped point with a full tang, fitted with two-piece composite grips with a hole for a lanyard and secured by steel rivets. The original stitched leather scabbard includes a belt loop and a securing strap.
stamped “Legitimus / Collins & Co., Made in USA, No. 1250”, alongside the date “1943”. The scabbard is hand-painted with “MOR PLT.” for Mortar Platoon. The reverse is marked “(???) E Ltd / 1944 / (Broad Arrow)” as well as “(Broad Arrow) 116”

Condition
Good. The blade shows light patina, and a clearly visible maker’s mark and date. The composite grips are secure with light handling wear. Scabbard is complete, with stitching intact and surface wear consistent with service use.
