Dorsetshire Regiment officer’s quality button (1900–1951 pattern), 20mm example of British Army uniform insignia associated with the Dorsetshire Regiment. This pattern spans the late Victorian transition into the Edwardian period and continues through both World Wars into the early post-war years.
The design features the regiment’s distinctive device in relief, incorporating a 3-turret castle with the regimental title above and battle honours “Gibraltar” and “Egypt” as well as the regimental motto. The surrounding inscription identifies the regiment, reflecting its county association and established identity.
Officers’ quality buttons are produced to a higher standard than other ranks’ examples, with sharper detailing and a more refined finish. The 20mm size corresponds to use on tunics and service dress garments where a medium-sized button was required.
The Dorsetshire Regiment served across multiple major conflicts, including both World Wars, and maintained strong regimental traditions rooted in light infantry heritage. Buttons of this type formed an important part of officer dress, reflecting both status and regimental affiliation.
Manufactured in brass with a shank fitting to the reverse, this example represents a well-executed piece of British regimental uniform insignia suitable for display or collection.
