This is a machine-embroidered King’s Crown pilot’s wing of the Royal Air Force, produced in black cloth and dating to the period before 1953. The design features the classic RAF pilot’s brevet with outstretched wings flanking the central “RAF” monogram, surmounted by the King’s Crown. This pattern was worn on flying clothing and service dress throughout the reigns of Kings George V and George VI, and it remains one of the most recognisable insignia associated with RAF aircrew of the early and mid-20th century.

The wing is worked in machine embroidery on black wool cloth, using light-coloured thread for the wing detail, wreath, and monogram. The reverse is plain, as is typical for machine-embroidered examples intended for practical wear.
