Victorian Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) sergeant’s Glengarry badge, restrike example of British military headdress insignia associated with the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) during the reign of Queen Victoria.
This badge reproduces the distinctive Glengarry cap insignia worn by sergeants of the Royal Highlanders, commonly known as the Black Watch. The design features the regiment’s celebrated badge arrangement with the St Andrew device and associated regimental symbolism, including the regiment’s original number “42”, reflecting the strong identity and traditions of one of Scotland’s most renowned infantry regiments.
Glengarry badges formed an important part of Highland military dress and were worn on the traditional Scottish Glengarry cap as a visible symbol of regimental affiliation and rank. Sergeants’ patterns reflected the established hierarchy of insignia used throughout Victorian Army uniforms and ceremonial dress.
The Black Watch earned an enduring reputation through service across imperial campaigns and became recognised for its distinctive Highland dress, discipline, and military heritage. Victorian-era insignia remains highly collectable for its connection to traditional Scottish regimental history.
As a restrike example, this badge has been manufactured after the original period and reproduces the appearance of the historic Victorian pattern while offering an attractive display and collecting piece.
Manufactured in bimetal (brass and white metal) with fittings to the reverse for cap attachment, this example represents a classic piece of Scottish military-style insignia.
