WW2 Territorial Efficiency Medal Group (1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal 1939-45, War Medal 1939-45), awarded to Craftsman Leslie Richard Arthur Barnham, Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME)

Born 3rd February 1913 in Ledbury, Herefordshire, England to parents Joe Harry and Elizabeth Charlotte Barnham. He married Olive Winifred Knight in 1937 in Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex and worked as a plumber.

Barnham signed up to the REME, attached to the Royal Artillery (Territorial Army) under the 230 Field Battery and was attested on the 17th of May 1939. He was sent overseas as a Gunner in the 58th Field Regiment on the 2nd April, 1940 and evacuated (presumably from France) on the 16th June, 1940. He qualified as a Fitter 3rd Class on the 5th of September 1941 and transferred to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC) on the 10th September 1941 and was posted. He reverted to a Craftsman by “own request” on the 20th of April 1944. He was posted to North-Western Europe from the 4th of July, 1944 and remained there for the duration of the War, leaving on the 8th of July, 1945. He was made a reserve in January 1946 and became an AGR (Army General Reserve) from the 11th of February, 1954.
