Based upon the classic Sam Browne design, the waist belt forms the principal component of the Sam Browne equipment worn by British Army officers and many Commonwealth armed forces. Designed to be used with the matching cross-strap and sword fittings, where appropriate, the belt provides a secure and practical means of carrying ceremonial swords, pistols, and other dress accoutrements while maintaining the distinctive appearance of British military officers’ equipment.
The Sam Browne belt takes its name from Sir Samuel James Browne, who developed the original design during the nineteenth century after losing an arm whilst serving in India. His innovative belt arrangement provided greater stability when carrying a sword and sidearm, and it was subsequently adopted throughout the British Army before becoming standard officer’s equipment across much of the British Empire and Commonwealth.
Manufactured to the current pattern, this brown leather waist belt combines traditional appearance with modern production standards.
